Too Cool For School But Ready For The Zombie Apocalypse

1953 GMC School Bus rides again!

So, if Finding Old Cars is not your thing then maybe Finding Old Buses is! We were fortunate enough to attend the Maple Brothers Auction in Oklahoma City, OK  this past weekend where we spotted plenty of old cars. Amongst the most intriguing was this 1953 GMC Bus! The LS swap of all LS swaps and a bus that any kid would be afraid to ride to school. We’re not sure if the creator was getting ready for the zombie apocalypse or was the leader of the local Rat Rod Club making a statement. Whatever the case the bus seemed to fit either category very well.

The interior of the old school bus has been modified to include two air conditioners, which has to be better than sliding down the windows as we did back in the good ol’ days on the way home from school. The uncomfortable seats have been replaced with couches that convert to beds and up front is a one of a kind table with an engine block pedestal and glass top. To fancy things up LED lights have been added along with a refrigerator and TV. Of course, you’ll need a toilet to survive the zombie invasion so that has been included too.

The original engine which was most likely the valve-in-head 302 introduced by GMC in 1953 has been replaced with a 6.0 LS and paired with a 4L80E transmission. We’d like to say that the exterior patina is original but the creator seems to have had a little too much fun with the personalization. The front proudly displays “Dept Rat Rods” while the ownership is displayed as “State of Oklahoma, Dept of Public of Rat Rods, Enid School of Rust".

If you were looking for the perfect escape vehicle for the zombie apocalypse you may have missed your chance. This No Reserve beauty was snatched up for an incredible $23,220. We are anxious to see if the Zombie Rat Rod RV will show up on social media at a camp site near you or possibly in the next National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation movie where cousin Eddy will have the “shifter” full.

FindingOldCars.com would like to thank the entire staff at Maple Brothers Auctions for their hospitality over the past weekend and more importantly for being such a great asset to the Collector Car hobby. We are looking forward to the next event on November 17th -18th in Dallas, TX.
