1927 Packard Discovered in Abandoned Factory After Over 40 Years

In an unexpected twist of fate, a 1927 Packard, remarkably well-preserved, was recently uncovered in an abandoned factory in Philadelphia. Covered in over forty years of dust, the classic car was found within the confines of a disused metalworking shop and textile production warehouse, now slated for sale.

Originally sold new in Philadelphia, the Packard changed hands in the 1940s when it was purchased second-hand by the factory's former owner. It served as his daily driver for more than a decade. Recent footage from Iron Trap Garage reveals the car to be a Packard Six sedan, boasting an impressively low odometer reading of around 10,000 miles.

The vehicle's history includes family trips to Connecticut and daily commutes to the factory. However, mechanical problems in the mid-1950s forced the Packard off the road. Initially stored in a relative's garage, it was later moved to the factory for safekeeping due to changing circumstances.

The Packard remained hidden in the factory from 1974 until January of this year, accumulating dust for an astonishing 45 years. It was finally rescued by the former owner’s son, who returned to the premises to retrieve this piece of family history.

The 1927 Packard epitomizes the luxury and elegance of its era, retaining numerous period features within its interior. These include roll-down courtesy blinds in the rear windows, a levered bar footrest for rear passengers, a wooden steering wheel, light switches positioned between the car’s sections, and a Duplex heater on the floor. These charming details highlight the craftsmanship and opulence associated with Packard ownership during that time.

The Packard proved its durability as it was carefully loaded onto a roll-back trailer, a task made challenging by the factory's rusted and seized door, which was difficult to open. This discovery not only brings to light a beautifully preserved classic car but also evokes memories of a bygone era in American automotive history.
