Rare 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback Unearthed in Oklahoma Barn Find

In 1964, Ford revolutionized the automotive industry with the Mustang, creating a new segment of affordable sports cars. The Mustang was an instant hit, combining class and practicality at a base price of $2,368. With four seats and numerous options, it quickly became a favorite, leading to over a million units sold within the first 18 months. Despite its widespread availability, the Mustang remains a highly sought-after classic car, especially rare models like the 1968 GT Fastback with an S code V8 engine. This particular model was recently discovered in a garage in Oklahoma, drawing comparisons to the famous Mustang from the 1968 movie "Bullitt" starring Steve McQueen.

The car in question is a 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback with the rare S code 390 cubic-inch V8 engine, capable of producing 325 horsepower. This combination was uncommon, making the find even more remarkable. The 1968 model year featured several updates, including revised side scoops, a new steering wheel, and upgraded gasoline caps. Side marker lights were added, and cars built after January 1 included shoulder belts for the front seats in coupés. The GT trim further enhanced the car with fog lights, a dual-exhaust system, a beefier suspension, and upgraded wheels and tires.

The Mustang rescued from the Oklahoma garage appears to be in excellent condition on the exterior, despite being stationary for decades. The first wash revealed a rust-free body, a rare find for a car of this age. While the interior requires some restoration, the overall value of the car remains high. The garage where the Mustang was found also contained other vintage gems, including a 1964 Ford Falcon and a Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria, believed to be from either 1955 or 1956. Though briefly shown in the video, these cars likely received the same level of care as the Mustang.
